Opening a student account

To help you come to and settle down in the UK, we have created a special current account for Chinese students. Just contact your nearest Bank of China branch, our colleagues in China will work closely with us to help you to open your UK student account before your departure.

Enjoy interest income

We offer you a high interest rate on your student account, you can enjoy both the flexibility of high interest income. The interest is 2.5% below Bank of England Base Rate (variable). For example, if the Bank of England Base Rate is 5%, the interest rate on your student account will be 2.5%; if the Bank of England Base Rate increases by 5.5%, the interest rate on your student account will also increase by 3%.

Transfer money to your new account in advance

When your UK student account is open, you can start transferring up to £30,000 to your new account before departure. This takes away with the inconvenience of having to pay your tuition fees and living expenses in cash.

Applying for a GreatWall Debit Card in advance

You can apply for a GreatWall debit card when you open your UK student account. Our GreatWall Debit Card offers you the convenience of cash-free purchase and easy cash withdrawal in the UK and abroad. It usually takes two to three weeks for us to prepare the card for you. You will then be able to collect the card from your nearest Bank of China (UK) Limited branch or Head Office Banking Department in the City of London as soon as you arrive in the UK.
